The Prophet's Prayer from Authentic Ahadith
[Part:05]

⁉️ Which conditions should be met while prostrating (sajda) and which duas should be recited in Sajda?

🔊 Showing Moderation while prostrating:

📚 Hadith:

♦️ It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:
"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When one of you prostrates, let him put his hands down before his knees, and not kneel like a camel.'"

[Sunan an-Nasa'i :1092]✨

🔊 Using 7 bones to prostate (sajdah):

📚 Hadith:
♦️ Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I have been ordered to prostrate on seven bones i.e. on the forehead along with the tip of the nose and the Prophet (ﷺ) pointed towards his nose, both hands, both knees and the toes of both feet and not to gather the clothes or the hair."

[Sahih al-Bukhari: 812]✨

🔊 Skipping Raising of hands (Raf' al-Yadayn) while going in Sajda:

📚 Hadith:
♦️Narrated Salim bin `Abdullah:
My father said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to raise both his hands up to the level of his shoulders when opening the prayer; and on saying the Takbir for bowing. And on raising his head from bowing he used to do the same and then say "Sami`a l-lahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa laka l-hamd." And he did not do that (i.e. raising his hands) in prostrations.

[Sahih al-Bukhari :735]✨

🔊 Making the fingers point towards the direction of Qibla, while prostrating:

📚 Hadith:
♦️ “When he prostrated himself he neither placed his arms on the ground nor closed them; putting forward his fingers towards the Qiblah.”
[Sunan Abi Dawud 732]✨

🔊 Positioning head in the centre of both palms while prostrating:


📚 Hadith:
♦️“And when he ﷺ prostrated, he prostrated between his two palms. “
[Sahih Muslim :401]✨

🔊 Making the fingers of feet point towards the direction of Qibla while prostrating:

📚 Hadith:
♦️In prostrations, he ﷺ placed both his hands on the ground with the forearms away from the ground and away from his body, and his toes were facing the Qibla.
[Sahih al-Bukhari :828]✨

🔊 Keeping the arms apart while prostrating:

📚 Hadith:
♦️ "When the Prophet (ﷺ) prayed, he used to separate his arms from his body so widely that the whiteness of his armpits was visible."
[Sahih al-Bukhari :390]✨

🔊 Keeping your stomach (upper body) away from thighs while prostrating:


📚 Hadith:
♦️ When he ﷺ prostrated he kept his thighs wide and did not let his belly touch the thighs.
[Sunan Abi Dawud: 735]✨

🔊 While prostrating, moderation is favoured:

📚 Hadith:
♦️The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Do the prostration properly and do not put your forearms flat with elbows touching the ground like a dog.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari :532]✨
📚 Hadith:
♦️ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said. When you prostrate yourself, place the palms of your hands on the ground and raise your elbows.
[Sahih Muslim: 494]✨

🔊 Duas to be recited in Sajda:

1️⃣ First Dua:
📚 Hadith:

♦️ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى
[Sunan an-Nasa'i 1047]✨

2️⃣ Second Dua:
📚 Hadith:

♦️ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى وَبِحَمْدِهِ

[Sunan Abi Dawud 870]✨

3️⃣ Third Dua:
📚 Hadith:

♦️سُبُّوحٌ قُدُّوسٌ رَبُّ الْمَلاَئِكَةِ وَالرُّوحِ

[Sunan Abi Dawud 872]✨


🔊 Any dua can be made while prostrating:

📚 Hadith:
♦️ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The nearest a servant comes to his Lord is when he is prostrating himself, so make supplication (in this state).

[Sahih Muslim 482]✨

🔊 How to sit during Salah (Iftiraash):

📚 Hadith:
♦️ "One of the sunnahs of the prayer is to hold the right foot upright and point its toes toward the Qiblah, and to sit on the left foot."
[Sunan an-Nasa'i 1159]✨

🔊 Duas to be recited in between two Sajood:

1️⃣ First Dua :

📚 Hadith:
♦️ It was narrated from Hudhaifah that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say between the two prostrations:
“Rabbighfir li, Rabbighfir li (O Lord forgive me, O Lord forgive me).”
[Ibn Majah :897]✨

2️⃣ Second Dua:

📚 Hadith:
♦️ The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say between the two prostrations: "O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, heal me, and provide for me."
[Sunan Abi Dawud 850]✨

🔊 Resting after the second Sajda (Jalsa istiraha):

📚 Hadith:
♦️ When he raised his head from the second prostration he would sit for a while and then support himself on the ground and get up.
[Sahih al-Bukhari :824]✨
