A FOX 7 photojournalist was released from jail Thursday — one of dozens of people arrested during a pro-Palestine protest at the University of Texas at Austin — accused of “criminal trespassing,” according to the news outlet. The arrest is sparking condemnation from press freedom and First Amendment advocates in Texas and across the country. KXAN spoke with the president of the Society of Professional Journalists who is calling for a meeting with the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety and new legislation to protect reporters covering protests.
