So after my last fail of a build, I felt defeated. And as is often the case I couldn't stop thinking about how to make a wand or at least a better wand than I had made. At some point this idea popped in to my head; I could use the belt sander to make an ornate, all be it rustic but somewhat ornate handle for the wand if I used smaller/thinner belts. It would mimic the look of the lathe. I have used this idea in the past to sand small intricate or tight pieces before. I just never tried or thought about contouring wood with a thin belt.

So I prepped a few blanks and gave it a shot. I was pleased with the results I think with some practice and just repetition I could get finer or cleaner finished pieces. This is not a replacement for a lathe but it is quite effective considering just the lathe alone will cost you $200+ and that doesn't even include the cost of the tools.

While this may not be anything new to some of you I do have to admit I feel very clever for thinking this up. I hope this is helpful to anyone who wants to make a wand without a lathe. Thanks for watching.
