The 2019 Ford F-150 enters yet another year in stiff competition with the Chevy Silverado and Ram 1500 (and, to a lesser degree, the Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan). But while each truck competes fiercely for the crown in everything from payload and towing capacities to the number of cupholders and inches of rear-seat legroom, the Ford F-150 excels because of its ability to offer something for everyone.

A 3.0-liter PowerStroke diesel V6 engine joined the F-150’s powertrain lineup in 2018. With 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque, the diesel F-150 is ideal for towing. And to make matters better, the F-150’s diesel powertrain does a great job feeling…. Well, not like a diesel! Quiet at speed and smoot while accelerating, the only time the diesel engine reveals its rougher traits is during start-up.

The F-150 is also available with a 3.3-liter V6, a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6, a 3.5-liter V6 used in the Raptor and Limited trims, and the old faithful 5.0-liter Coyote V8. Shoppers also have a choice between extended Supercab, 4-door SuperCrew, and single-cab body styles, with short- or long-bed pairings and either rear- or all-wheel drive.

Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system is now standard on XLT and higher trims, complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Tack on some helpful advanced safety systems, and the F-150 makes its case as the most well-rounded truck on the market.
