To celebrate the channel reaching 100,000 subscribers, Miles answers the two questions he gets asked most often: 1) how do you drive all these cars? + (2) how can I do this too?

We'll start with some background:
Miles has always loved cars. While he was in college, he started his blog, milesperhr.com. On the site, he wrote about anything and everything related to cars. While still at school in Boston, Miles was connected to the executive producer of his favorite YouTube-based car news show, Fast Lane Daily. Miles asked if he could intern for the show and the producer said, "yes". After spending a summer in NYC working with Derek D, AK, Erica, and the other FLD team members, Miles was offered a full-time scriptwriting position for the show. Over the next four years, Miles became connected with other professionals in the automotive industry while he pursued an unrelated career in Marketing.

Miles continued to write for FLD even after moving back to California to work on a food business idea. After his business struck out, Miles decided to go all-in on being a freelance automotive journalist. Leveraging the connections he'd made during his time with FLD, Miles was able to put together a small, but living wage writing and making videos for automotive media sites and YT channels. Miles had been experimenting with content for his own YouTube channel for almost 10 years and still wrote for his blog, but he'd never been consistent. Now was the time to give it a shot. At the beginning of 2020, Miles started making daily videos on his channel with the goal of letting the cars be the star (not him). His faith in God has been critical in keeping him going. There have been so many times when he's felt overwhelmed or wanted to give up, but God has encouraged Miles to keep working. That brings us to the present moment and an incredible 100,000 subscribers!

Now to the questions:
1) How does Miles drive all these cars?
Using the connections he's made in the automotive industry over the past several years, Miles requests vehicle loans directly from the automakers. Each carmaker uses a fleet management company to handle logistics of getting vehicles into journalist hands for between 3 and 7 days. Miles works with the companies to schedule loans and arrange drop-off and pick-up of each car (at his residence). Some vehicles are loaned with restrictions like mileage, but most are given without restriction, allowing him to test the cars as he pleases. Automakers are willing to loan vehicles to Miles because he has proven that he will give these brands access to consumers (through videos on YouTube, articles for other media sites, and social media posts).

2) How can you do this too?
The life of a freelance car journalist may look glamorous, but it's a LOT of hard work and requires a LOT of patience. Whether you like to write or make videos about cars, you should start today (not tomorrow and not next week). Only practice will help you refine your presentation or writing style. You don't need access to any special vehicles to start, either. Review your parent's car, your neighbor's car, or your friend's car. Write or make videos about the latest car news. Write or make videos about automotive trends. When you've made sufficient work samples and are happy with your style, you can present these samples to media outlets, offering to do similar work for them. Or, you can keep working on your own blog, channel, or social accounts in the hopes of building a loyal audience. Whichever way you go, don't count on becoming an overnight success or making a lot of money. To find success in this career, you need to love cars, to be patient, and to be dedicated. You can and will become successful if you persevere!
