If there was a model in the Toyota range that didn't need a GR Sport model, the Yaris Cross was probably it.

But here we are, with a front-wheel drive petrol-electric small SUV brandished with GR Sport badges, with a revised and lowered suspension for better handling, and with a number of GR touches on the inside.

Does it do Gazoo Racing proud? No. It doesn't. Does that matter for the sort of buyer who wants a Yaris Cross? No. It doesn't.

So is it a piece of marketing and product genius? It could be. Either way. the Toyota Yaris Cross is one of the best small SUVs you can buy. I'll tell you why in this review.
