We have had a vw golf gtd mk7 on the fleet for nearly four years now but its time has come… here is an overview and summary of the volkswagen golf gtd manual, presented by Our Tim.

This is not a wannabe car review, like so many of the other car review channel out there, this a genuine long term test of the mk7 Golf GTD.

Depends. If you want an economical, but fun, practical car, its difficult to beat it. Its got great build quality, brilliant interior, fantastic driving dynamics, plus its practical and only £20 a year to Tax. But, it is compromised in one big way… the engine.

For me, it didn’t do power or performance well enough. The golf gtd acceleration was good, but nothing amazing. I found that other none performance diesels could easily match its pace, which is embarrassing for a GT(x) model.

It also failed to deliver the economy I would expect. Average was 48.6mpg, which just isn’t good enough for a 2.0L Diesel with this performance. The best I got was 58mpg.

The vw golf mk7 is an outstand car. Well built, well spec’ed, it’s a truly brilliant car. Take any Golf Mk7 for a road test, and you will not be disappointed.

If you are looking for a performance Golf, go for the Golf GTI or golf r, they are proper performance Golfs. If you want economy, buy the vw golf tdi.

Go for the GTI. The extra money you will spend in running costs is worth every penny. The GTD isn’t really a GT(x) model, its more a GT-TDI. That is my vw golf gtd mk7 review.

Check the history of the car, look at paperwork first and then look at tyres, brakes, bodywork and suspension. Shocks can mist. Check the engine timing chain and water pump (electric) has been changed. Then look over the interior and take for a test drive.
