Backpackers can easily treat muddy water with a few drops of "Water Wizard for River Runners" polyaluminum chloride (PAC) solution before disinfecting via micro-filtration or other method for drinking. A couple milliliters of PAC solution that can treat 20 liters of water is easily carried in a 2 g dropper bottle, so this is a simple and ultralight solution (pun!) for backpackers who have to clarify silty or muddy water on their treks.

I am not sure that the way shown to mix the PAC was necessary, but it was fun!

Have you ever had to clarify water while backpacking? How did you do it?

Thanks for watching!
