20 years ago this month I got my chance at the 366 Adelaide West 7th floor offices of Digital Renaissance for a job interviewed with Amy Kovarick. I had brought some concept drawings from my film career, artwork, character designs and a (very) short showreel of 3D animation. On VHS tape. Remember those? In attendance was their one staff designer at the time Andrew Hladkyj.
I won the contract.
So began a short contract career with Digital Renaissance and my first job in New Media working on the 3D environment for the IMAX “Fires of Kuwait” game project. A few months later Amy, Perry and Keith welcomed me into the DR family. I was the second staff designer and employee number 9 (The company would eventually grow to 200 diverse and talented people).
Since August 1994 I’ve worked with a number of companies, met and worked with some amazing people. But I have to say that my most favorite memories and people are from those 5 years spent at Digital Renaissance/Extend Media.
Thanks Amy. Thanks Perry. Thanks Keith. Thanks Andy.
Thanks for giving me that chance 20 years ago
