Both Irene Williams and Hattie Garce said they were slaves in the United States. They were interviewed as part of the Slave Narrative WPA project in the late '30's, early '40's. They were asked to recall and sing songs the recall being sung on the plantations of the Old South.


Here are two short songs they said were song by American slaves in the 1800's. (The second song sounds a lot like the cadence Appalachian people use, no?)
