We all have ideas.

Whether those ideas determine the next meal we eat, thing we wear, or place we go, ideas are plentiful when navigating through life. Sometimes an idea is prepped and ready to be thought up; other times, an idea takes hours, days, weeks, months, maybe even years, to fully develop.

In the case of the latter, an idea may often be in regards to some wholly new venture you have undertaken. Perhaps you’ve decided you want to be a novelist, and upon trying to think up your first story, you realise that ideas do not simply come to you because you’re consciously trying to think them up.

If pursued long enough however, an idea will eventually form. This may come to you in the most unexpected of times. For me, ideas rarely come consciously. I can think of many times where a seemingly meaningless interaction, sight, act, whatever, sparks a thought that somehow manifests the final piece to the puzzle that is now, undeniably, my idea.

Eureka: we all love a eureka moment. But having had many myself and understanding where it leads to next, I think it is fair to say that the cerebral inception of the idea - as satisfying as it is at the time - can often be the beginning of a curse of high expectations.
