In Part 2, my Amtrak Texas Eagle train arrives in San Antonio, Texas and joins the Sunset Limited train. Together, we head all the way across Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona to California and the final stop of Los Angeles. There's a fresh air stop in Alpine, some friendly company at breakfast and lunch, brief looks at stops like El Paso, Tucson, and Deming, breathtaking scenery and a perfect sunset, and the gentle isolation of watching it all go by from my private roomette. Plus, the ongoing news that we were scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles an hour early – 4:30 in the morning. I was skeptical that we'd actually be that early...
