After using the little TS100 soldering iron on many projects over the past couple weeks, I have come to the same realization many others have... I don't want to use an old school ceramic core iron ever again!
This got me wondering; how do these cartridge soldering tips with the integrating heating element and temperature sensor work considering there are only two contacts? After all, traditional old school pro irons use 4 wires/contacts (2 for the heating element & 2 for the temp sensor).
Here's a little demonstration along with my hypothesis.
