During WW2 Special Operations Executives, a government organisation, flew agents from a "secret" airfield in Bedfordshire to overseas destinations to work with resistance forces. Average life expectancy of an agent being dropped into occupied France was a mere 6 weeks. At this "Secret" Airfield is the barn that was the SOE's final dispatch point; it now houses memorials to those that didn't return. Lest we forget.
