AH-1 Cobra, is a two-bladed, single-engine attack helicopter developed by Bell Helicopter in the 1960s. It was originally designed to provide close air support for ground troops and perform anti-tank missions.
The first production model, the AH-1G, entered service with the United States Army in 1967 during the Vietnam War. It quickly proved to be an effective weapon, with its ability to fly low and fast, and deliver accurate firepower. The Cobra's distinctive design features a tandem cockpit arrangement with the pilot sitting in front and the co-pilot/gunner sitting behind.
Over the years, the Cobra has undergone several upgrades and variations, including the AH-1S, AH-1T, and the AH-1W SuperCobra, which featured a more powerful engine, improved avionics, and increased armament options.
The Cobra has been widely used by the U.S. military and its allies, with over 2,000 units produced. It has seen action in conflicts such as the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has also been used by numerous other countries, including Israel, Japan, and Turkey.
Today, the Cobra remains in service with several countries, although it is gradually being replaced by newer attack helicopter models such as the AH-64 Apache and the Eurocopter Tiger.
