First up, let’s talk about the bad. After all, it’d rather end this video on a good note since I love this car. With that, though, it has some downsides. The first downside is how much the interior - specifically the leather - has deteriorated over time. This car is incredibly difficult to get in and out of, which is surprising considering it’s not that low. But it has a weird entry angle.

Because of that, the leather on the side bolster wears down extremely quickly. Also a known side effect of eating too much Chinese food, so the car isn’t all to blame.

Another reason this car can be a bit difficult to get in and out of is because the seat is… broken. Because of that, it’s set to a position that isn’t necessarily comfortable, but it’s drivable, which is nice.

The seat being broken has been one of the most inconvenient problems of driving the car. The seat position doesn’t move, and the heated seat doesn’t work whatsoever. Not a big deal unless it’s 3 degrees outside.

Multiple mechanics have looked at the issue and have no idea where to start. We’ve been told that they could start with a problem it COULD be for the price of $600. But it might not be that, so it’s likely to be a waste of money and get more expensive.

Another mechanic recommended just replacing the entire seat. Seemed logical… But no thank you.

On top of that, the 4 Series likes to drip. The oil pan gasket loves to drip, and usually it finds itself dripping onto belts. So with that, it’s usually an $700 repair. That same part has started leaking 4 times, which comes out to a little over every 10,000 miles. Nice.

Nobody has really been able to figure out why the 4 Series likes to drip oil from this part so much, but it seems to be really good at it. While I get that the car has had a ton of miles put on it in just over a year, but 4 times from the same part seems excessive.

Now let’s talk about some of the things that have done very well at aging and having so many miles put on so quickly - starting with the transmission. The ZF 8 Speed automatic transmission is silky smooth even after 100k miles. If there’s one thing I’m truly impressed with, it’s the transmission. It’s just absolutely perfect. Gear changes are smooth, and in comfort mode, it’s so smooth that you barely notice it changes gears.

In sport mode, the transmission turns into a different beat. It’s, well, sporty and shifts hard. The 4 Series turns into a true animal in sport mode, and putting the transmission in sport mode and manual shifting makes the experience 1000x times better.

Moving outside, the exterior has aged pretty well minus the fact that I have suspensions this car has been lowered a bit by the previous owner who also put an aftermarket Injen air intake on it. If it’s been lowered, it’s only very slightly, but I’ve noticed it’s a bit lower than other 4 Series.

Because of that, it scrapes. On everything. Going down the road, you’re going to scrape. Driving through a neighborhood, it’ll scrape. Sure, it’s nowhere near as bad as driving a “stanced” car, but it’s a pain trying to get around every little obstacle.

Overall, though, the 4 Series has been a great car. The first 100,000 miles have been a really great experience. I’m excited to see how the car holds up for the next 100,000 miles. With driving so many older BMWs with hundreds of thousands of miles, I’m confident the 4 Series will last truly forever.

Sure, the 4 series has some issues. The leather is truly annoying to look at, and the exterior is a bit of an eyesore from the front bumper. But the car has done really well at withstanding the test of time. I’m truly impressed.
