Rather than applying a “one-size fits all” mentality, Ford will produce the new Bronco in varying sizes. A “Baby Bronco,” The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport, will offer four doors. Slightly larger than the Sport, a 2-Door Bronco also arrives, and a 4-door Bronco takes aim at the 4-door Jeep Wrangler and the Toyota 4Runner.

Each comes complete with an unmistakably Bronco grille, round headlights, and a blocky exterior design perfect for aiding exterior visibility when picking the way up a trail.

Under the hood, the 2- and 4-door Broncos will offer either a 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder or an optional 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6. While the former will get the job done with 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, the bigger V6 will scream thanks to 310 horses and an even 400 pound-feet.

The Bronco shouldn’t have any problem surmounting obstacles. Ground clearance comes in at a best-in-class 11.6 inches. Departure angle measures 37.2 degrees. Need to cross a stream? The Bronco can ford water up to 33 and a half inches deep.

Inside, you’ll find an available 12-inch touchscreen display running SYNC 4 infotainment.

The Bronco will also come with removable doors and a removable roof, allowing for an open-air driving experience. And should the skies open up and the rain starts pouring down, rest easy knowing that you’ll be able to buy a Bronco with rubberized floors, drain plugs, marine-quality upholstery, and wipeable waterproof surfaces and gauges.

Despite the unavoidable controversy sure to follow this decision, Ford’s packing a 1-and-a-half liter EcoBoost 3-cylinder in lower-level Bronco Sports. For those that want more than 181 horsepower, a 2.0-liter Ecoboost 4-pot will also be available with 245 horsepower.

Although it sports less ground clearance, and shallower approach and departure angles, the Bronco Sport still aims to be a true off-roading machine. 4WD comes standard, and the little Bronco sits on independent front and rear suspensions.

Inside, you’ll find more durable and waterproof materials, but the Sport doesn’t get the SYNC 4 infotainment system you’ll find in the larger Bronco. Instead, the Sport runs SYNC 3 on an 8-inch display with Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility.

The Bronco Sport should hit dealership lots in late 2020, while production of the 2- and 4-door Broncos are expected to start in early 2021. What do you think will make or break this new off-roader’s success, and would you consider one instead of a similar Jeep Wrangler?
