On April 30, the governing body of the Alabama Public Library Service will consider four proposed amendments to its administrative code. These proposals submitted by Gov. Kay Ivey stem from concerns about sexually explicit materials found in the children’s sections of many public libraries. The concerns raised are not about banning or censoring but about location and access within the children’s and youth areas.

Cindy Battles, a concerned citizen who has been researching the controversy, joins Jennifer Rash on this TAB Media Special Report to share what she is learning.

To receive a copy of Gov. Ivey’s proposed amendments and/or see a copy of the letter Cindy mentions in the interview, email [email protected] or call 205-870-4720. Reference “public libraries,” so your email or call will be directed to the appropriate person.

The April 30 meeting is open to the public. It begins at 10 a.m. at 6030 Monticello Drive in Montgomery, AL 36117. Send concerns via letter or email and requests to speak at the meeting by 4:30 p.m. April 29.

Follow-up coverage will be provided by TAB Media Group at https://thealabamabaptist.org.
