Sakhile (📸navy blue overalls) hails from Shewula Inkhundla and is a former World Vision Registered Child (RC).
After her father died when she was just 2 years old, her mother lacked financial resources and essentials to meet her family’s needs. However, she was skilled at sewing, so World Vision, through Shewula Area Programme stepped in and supported her sewing group (Siyatfutfuka Bomake Sewing Group) with 7 industrial sewing machines. This made their production yield more revenue since the process was now faster, enabling her to build a house for children and provide enough food for them.
Sakhile was inspired by her mother’s hardwork and she eventually learnt sewing too. By the time she was 16, she was producing incredible sewing pieces.
Apart from the development the Shewula Area Programme brought in their community (i.e., water, livelihoods, infrastructure, etc), as a Registered Child under World Vision’s Sponsorship Programme, Sakhile got support in these following areas;
✴️Contributing To Her School Fees
✴️School Learning Materials, eg, school bag
✴️Clothing
Sakhile’s always known that learning vocational skills is just as important as your education, and that is why she enrolled at Mpaka Vocational Skills Training Centre, through Young Heroes' help, after completing her Form 5. She graduated in 2021 and life changed for the better!
She is now the only female artisan at her workplace at Simunye, and also owns a side business in sewing. Sakhile is also a nail technician, which enables her to be called a woman of multiple streams of income!
She says this is just the beginning of her life story;
“I want to own a business one day where I will be providing job opportunities to other people as well”, she elaborated.
We are so proud of you Sakhile and grateful to have contributed to turning your life around!
