The war in Ukraine is unsettling for all of us, particularly those of us living in Europe but war of any type can be especially nerve racking for children. The war in Ukraine is all over the news, TV, radio, social media and people are talking about it a lot in real life. Children pick up on things going on around them and can build a lot of anxiety over things they don't fully understand all of the nuances.

Our Child Psychotherapist, Christina Saltmarsh, talks about the best way to speak to children about Ukraine, particularly when it comes to foster children whose fear system tends to be on higher alert than others anyway. Speaking to children about war may not feel appropriate depending on their age and circumstance but it is far better for children to have information and the freedom to express their worries and learn, rather than overhearing and guessing about what is happening.
