Geometric Phrasing Lesson 9 – Part 1

Today we are expanding even further in the studies of “Geometric Phrasing” concepts.
If you did note take Lesson 1 yet, I suggest you start from the beginning of the series.

This lesson today is Lesson #9 Part 1, so you will have more fun and a better understanding if you take Lesson 1, first and just go from the beginning of this course. See links to entire FREE CPOURSE at the bottom!

Today we are working on a phrase in 7/8 with the musical form: AAAB
In part 2 of this lesson, we will be playing the entire form 2 times on each of the positions, moving all over the drum set, but for now, lets learn the phrase and the feet ostinatos, befpre attempting to move it all around the set.

Let’s look at the stickings:

Gary Chaffee 6b = RLRRLL or LRLLRR
Gary Chaffee 6d = RLRLRR or LRLRLL
Gary Chaffee 8b = RLRRLLRR or LRLLRRLL
Gary Chaffee 4b = RLRR or LRLL

Today’s Phrase:

AAAB | AAAB

7/8 [: 6b 6b – 6d 6d – 4b |6b 6b – 6d 6d – 4b|6b 6b – 6d 6d – 4b| 8b 8b 8b 4b :]

The homework today is this:

Play this phrase with all 3 ostinatos presented in this lesson.
Next lesson we will be moving this bad boy all over the kit!
