The Maldives is a popular tourist destination among Indians. But the last few days, hashtags such as #BoycottMaldives and #ExploreIndianIslands have been trending on India social media. On 8 January, the CEO of Indian ticket-booking site EaseMyTrip said his company had suspended all flight bookings to the Maldives.
But what’s really happening and how did it all start? Nikita Mandhani speaks to the BBC’s business correspondent Arunoday Mukharjee to find out.
