Hans Memling's paintings and especially his portraits are an absolutely incredible example of how a genius artist can forestall his time. He lived in 15th century, but in 400 years his art gets more and more actual. That's why the connection between 15th century's paintings of Memling and 19th-20th century's music of Satie is so natural. Despite the fact that Hans Memling most of his life has been living in the Flemish city of Brugge and it was far distantly and culturally from Paris where Erik Satie spent most of his life.
Gnossienne No3 is one of the best musical compositions of this series. Made for the piano yet it sounds very well when played on the Harp.
