Lisa participates in order to sensitize the audience about a current and crucial topic: hospitality and assistance to the refugees. Not living in an ideal world in which the significant number of refugees could be absorbed in a short period of time giving them houses, how can we build a refugee camp? The priority is paying attention to the dignity of these people because those migrants asking for help are people first, refugees second. The involvement of the local community is not less important as it is the integration of the refugees in camp activities in order to reach the main aim of Do Your Part: to build a community, not only a camp, in which the residents participate actively in the community life. Lisa invites us to rethink our approach to this social issue proving that we care. Lisa Campbell is the cofounder and executive director of Do Your Part. During her life, she has always dedicated her time to our “neighbor”, taking care of him. She took part in many emergency project and she became a “emergency medical technician”. In 2016, she has been nominated manager of the refugee camp in Oinofyta. Once it had been closed by the Greek government, she opened a community center in the near Dilesi. The Oinofyta camp reopened, but in precarious conditions. Despite this situation, Lisa engagement has always focused on those people in need and their dignity. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
