Warners Outtakes 1936-1946

Wow! I can't believe how many of you have watched and commented (183,481 views as of today - no way!) since I edited these together decades ago. There were many more (may still be there - look on archive.org) but they were so obscure that, even armed with my trusty 1939 Academy Players Guide and TCM, I couldn't identify the actors (got some of them wrong here in this post as it is.) I suspect that when these were originally shown at Warners' studio parties some actors were not happy to be so exposed. And, of course, film wasn't cheap even then. Actors didn't have the luxury of requiring multiple takes and the studios sometimes considered them uncooperative prima donnas when they did. Hollywood folk were mostly contract players who needed unsullied reputations to keep working. Fans at the time read in the movie magazines that Bogie drank and cussed, but footage of him getting mad at himself for blowing a line (or Miss Davis stamping her foot) just wasn't available to the public.

Re-edited from Public Domain copies of Warners Breakdown reels found at www.archive.org

We are aware that some name titles are incorrect. See if you can find them. Argue about them in the Comments section. As this YouTube selection was complied a long time ago on a long-dead system with ancient software, we cannot make changes to this video.

All materials in this video are presented with the greatest respect and admiration for the classic actors of the golden years of Hollywood. Yes, some of them swore. Gosh, golly. Sorry for those who are offended. (I heard my mom use the f word only once. I was an adult, but I gasped. Mom giggled.)

This video is set to "Not made for kids", sez YouTube.

RIP, all you mugs.
