** Lawn Aerating Tips **

I cover a lot of tips in the video itself, here are some notes:

You want to aerate when the ground is moist. If the coil is too hard because of lack of rain, the aerating machine will not be able to pull long enough plugs for it to be effective. If the ground is too wet, the lawn will quickly become a muddy mess and you will not pull ideal plugs.

It's best to aerate in the spring for the fall, or when your turf's root system is most actively growing...this is typically in the fall but varies depending on your area and grass type.

Overseeding after aerating your lawn is a great way to fill in thin or bare spots in your turf.

Consider applying fertilizer after aerating too.

** Why is aerating so beneficial? **

Core aerating specifically creates thousands of holes in the soil. Water and nutrients can easily travel into these holes to reach the root zone of your turf. As the soil shifts and spreads to fill in the holes, it decompacts the soil. All of these things are great to improve the overall health of your lawn's root sytsem. The healthier your turf's root system, the better it looks on top and it will also be more drought and disease tolerant.
