Google vs Indian apps has increased the tensions in the Indian startup world. Shaadi.com app removed from the Google Play Store, 99 Acres removed from Google Play Store, and lastly other big internet companies like Bharat Matrimony removed from Play Store have caused havoc in the indian companies. This might be the largest Indian companies threatened by Google for not following the financial terms and conditions of listing their apps on Google Play Store.

Indian apps removed from Play Store show the power Google has because of its monopoly over the smartphone market in India. Most smartphone users in India use an Android system which is owned by Google, because of which Google has a lot of power concerning allowing different internet companies to use its network. Indian apps removed by Google from Play Store include some of the largest internet companies in India such as Shaadi.com, 99 Acres, and Bharat Matrimony.

This Google App ban is making many Indian startup founders and investors anxious. Many people are also terming it as Google vs India in the broader context of Google being an American company trying to harm Indian startups. In the wake of these events, the news of Google restores Indian apps also made rounds when Google allowed some of these apps to come back on the platform. Naukri app removed from Play Store and Shaadi.com removed from Play Store creating wider panic because of the large userbase of these apps in India.

The Google vs Indian apps saga is not going to end here. In this video, I explained the way Google is using its monopoly to ensure that apps listed on the Google Play store collect payments using Google’s own payments interface. The Play Store removed apps and then later on Google restores removed apps have made us question the intention behind Google taking such drastic steps. Many people have termed this event as a dark day in the history of the Indian internet. Why did Google remove Indian Apps? This may be just for not following the terms and conditions of use set up by Google, however, it might also be because Google wants to hand-twist all Indian apps to comply with the policies set up by it.

Google restores apps or not, this escalation will go to the competition commission, and with the advent of ONDC and similar domestic network architectures, we can rest assured that Google’s monopoly will be challenged soon. Hope you find this video valuable, see you in the next one.
