Delphanie and I head north on a 13-hour drive to visit our friend Anderson in the Northern Cree Community of Old Nemaska. While there we camp off-grid and get a short immersion in some land-based learning, including some walleye fishing, smoking sturgeon, and preparing Canada geese to cook sicabon style over an open fire. The community of Old Nemaska is the original townsite. The town was moved to Nemaska when the Rupert River was flooded as the old townsite was expected to get flooded out. However, the old townsite did not get flooded and so the community still uses this historical sight for fishing, hunting, and festivals.
