In this video I take a closer look at the incredible centuries long tale of the Barbary pirates.
Operating out of bases across North Africa, these fleets of pirates dominated the Mediterranean and conducted raids as far afield as England and Iceland, looting everything they could carry, seizing thousands of ships, and ripping over a million men, women and children from their homes to be sold at market like property.
