WIRED UK's editor, Greg Williams sits down with multi-award winning cancer surgeon, teacher, and entrepreneur, Shafi Ahmed to discuss the future of healthcare.

In this Q&A, Shafi and Greg explore the impact COVID-19 has had on the healthcare system. With the NHS being short approximately 40,000 nurses and 10,000 doctors, there are between 40,000 - 50,000 elective surgeries per month aren't happening at the moment due to COVID-19. How are we dealing with the lack or resources? What measures are being put in place to avoid this in the future?

From every lesson learned during this time, there are opportunities that have arisen: We are learning how we can build resilience in the healthcare system, what infrastructure needs to be implemented to deal with future pandemics and how technology really is empowering the management of COVID-19.

This briefing is part of the WIRED Insight COVID-19 series.

Designed as an extension of WIRED’s long-running live conference portfolio, these punchy, deliberate and engaging sessions reflect the same high calibre of speakers and programming featured at a WIRED event.
