Tesla has made some pretty drastic changes overnight on the order pages of the Model Y, Model X and Model S. This time, the Model 3 is spared from any of these changes, but it is most likely due to the impending refresh Model 3 (Project Highland) arriving soon.

Range Drop
Last night Tesla updated the range figures for all trims of the Model X and Model S and all trims of the Model Y except for Model Y RWD. These updates reflect a reduction in range in all but the Model S Long Range. In that case, the range stayed the same or increased slightly with upgraded wheels.

This change was unexpected but it does show our first signs of updated protocols at the EPA regarding EV range testing. These updates, although unclear at this time, are targeted at getting closer to realistic ranges consumers should expect from EV's.

Colors
Tesla has also introduced 2 new colors to the 4 year old offerings on the Tesla Model Y. Stealth Grey and Ultra Red are now available to order on the Model Y. Interestingly, since Midnight Silver Metallic was the included color before, and it is now replaced by Stealth Grey, this becomes the new default included color. Because it's a new color, I would expect to see that change to a different color being included and Stealth Grey getting an upcharge soon.

Ultra Red, which was first featured in March of 2023 on the Model S and Model X, is an updated Red paint Tesla developed for their premium cars. This new red is a stunning color and is sure to be extremely popular, even with the $2,000 upgrade cost.

Tax Credits
Although not officially confirmed yet, I have now been notified by several sources of Tesla's move to push customer deliveries out until Monday the 8th. This change is being cited as to accommodate both the PoS tax credit, but also to update the discounts on inventory cars at the same time. As soon as PoS tax credit is available to be transferred during your purchase, the discounts on inventory are very likely to disappear.

This is not official, but it is in line with many internal and external touch points I have had this week. Even if Tesla does not ultimately make the Monday deadline, it is clear that they are working diligently to get the EV Tax Credits available at time of purchase.
