A stock Jeep Wrangler TJ Rubicon takes on a stock Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon on Moab's Fins & Things to see which performs better off-road. We compare functional off-road angles/ground clearance, Traction, Maneuverability, Slow Speed Crawling (important for rock obstacles), Value/Price, Comfort, Fuel Use, Fun Factor/Enagaement, Stock Protection, and Trail Fixability. This is also an Updated Trail Guide of Fin and Things Moab.

The TJ Rubicon is the first generation Rubicon made from 2003-2006. Some consider the TJ the greatest wrangler ever made. The JL Rubicon is the latest Rubicon (3rd generation) and is supposed to be greatest wrangler ever made. So which is it? Both Rubicons are stock with manual transmissions, 6 cyclinder engines, and have no mods. Stock is the way to test two Jeeps as anyone can build any generation Jeep to beat another generation of Jeep. To avoid driver differences, I drove both Jeeps with similar tiredness (worked an overnight 12 hour shift and then went filming on my rest). I love both Jeeps so I truly didn't care which one performed better, but this surprised me. I have had 4 TJs and 3 Modern Jeeps (2 JKs, 1 JL) so I feel like I know them well.
