Review: Skeletal Avenger (10tons) is the new Action RPG Roguelite from 10tons that futher blurs the line between the two genres. Here you play as the skeleton of a recently murdered hero who is seeking revenge for your death. You become allies with a necromancer who helps arm you with weapons and point you in the direction of
things to kill. The core gameplay uses instanced dungeons that are randomly generated where you need to find and kill a target enemy to collect blood gems. Once you have collected enough gems you will be able to unlock the portal to the primary target for that area and attack them.

Along the way you collect increasingly more power weapons and armors. Each weapon you find has a distinct attack pattern and all the armors and weapons come with rarities. The higher the rarity the more potent the item. You also acquire essence abilities from previously slain skeletons within the dugeon that help you power up before the boss.

For combat they have closely mirrored Hades giving you a primary attack, a special attack, and limited quantity ranged attack (throwing your skull). You are also given a dash with three charges that needs to recharge with time once it has been used.

Overall the core mechanics feel good. There is a few rough spots that will need to be addressed, like once you have legendary equipment it defeats the purpose of finding new equipment, but I hope that's what the developers are using early access for. There's also a strong feeling of the game being fairly early still with some of the graphics coming off a little less polished. Hopefully that will also be addressed.

While I think Skeletal Avenger is a good bet for a great game once it is out of early access, it is a little rough around the edges in its current state. For those that are not risk averse I recommend jumping in right away, but for anyone else give the game a follow to see where it goes.

The game comes to early access 4/28/21 on Steam
Price: TBD
