Resident Evil Deadly Silence, the Nintendo DS port of Resident Evil 1, has a great multiplayer mode that doesn't get a lot of attention! I had more fun playing this than the open beta for the online multiplayer game included with Resident Evil Village, RE:Verse.

Resident Evil DS is a great version of the classic RE1, and it adds the 180 quick turn from RE3, skippable cutscenes, and the knife button from RE4. The addition of multiplayer makes it even better. You can connect up to 4 Nintendo DS consoles using local wifi, and jump into the co-op or versus modes. There's no online play, so you'll need to be in the same room as your friends. It's a multi-cart game, so you'll need 4 copies of Deadly Silence. Unfortunately, it doesn't have download play.

Capcom had already tried online multiplayer with Resident Evil Outbreak on the PS2, but this works a little differently. Instead of playing a full scenario, the multiplayer modes in Deadly Silence are more like the Extreme Battle mode from Resident Evil 2, or The Mercenaries from Resident Evil 3.

There's 3 levels to choose from: Mansion, Guardhouse, and Laboratory. Guardhouse and Lab are pretty much intact, but Mansion is just the east wing, starting from the shed where you find the crank in the main game.

The goal is to make your way to the final room and defeat the boss. In Co-op, you work with your teammates and share items. In Versus, you race to the finish, grabbing weapons and ammo for yourself along the way.

There's 9 characters to play as, but you'll need to unlock all of them except for Chris and Jill. Rebecca, Kenneth, Richard, Enrico, Forest, Barry, and Wesker are all playable.

The multiplayer mode is definitely worth checking out if you have a friend with a Nintendo DS, 2DS, or 3DS and a copy of Resident Evil Deadly Silence.

Special thanks to D.C. Douglas, the voice of Albert Wesker in Umbrella Chronicles, RE5, and more since 2007! Check out his fan store where he sells autographed merch and custom voice files!
