Two Malaysian navy helicopters collided mid-air during a rehearsal for a naval parade on Tuesday, killing all 10 crew members aboard, officials said.

According to the navy, the incident occurred at the Lumut naval base in the western state of Perak in the morning, adding that it will carry out an investigation into the cause.

Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said efforts were underway to verify the identities of the crew members killed, all of whom were under the age of 40.

"The ministry has agreed to establish an investigation board by the TLDM to ascertain the cause of the incident,” Nordin said. “I hope that the public will avoid sharing videos of the incident out of respect for the sensitivity and to honour the families of the victims, while also refraining from speculating on the investigation process."
