How The Book Thief Develops its Central Theme

The power of words. While this doesn't sound all that complex, I think the true brilliance of The Book Thief is found in the way that this theme is woven into so many aspects of this story -- its characters, setting, and plot. Drawing on years of teaching this book in my high school World Literature class, this video essay / analysis traces this thread in the Markus Zusak's novel and the film adaptation, from beginning to end.
