Since the 1970s, freshwater mussel populations have been declining. American Rivers in partnership with the US Forest Service Southern Research Station and over 100 partners across 13 states is researching this decline to advocate for science based policy and practice to protect a global hotspot of river species biodiversity in the Southeast US.
