The Sony/Tascam DTRS format is a professional 8-track digital audio recording onto Hi8 tape. Models include the Tascam DA-88 (which the format is often known as), DA-98HR, DA-38, DA-78HR, DS-D98 and Sony PCM800. These machines can damage tapes due to incorrect back tension which is often caused by a lubrication issue. Let's fix a DA-98HR and check over a DA-88 and PCM800.

The proper head cleaning procedure is: With DA-88 off, hold down both the UP-arrow and the DOWN-arrow buttons then switch on. Cleaning happens automatically for 5 seconds. Head wear is significant so this should be avoided. See: http://www.silentway.com/definitive-g...
