ਜਿਹਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਾਯਰ ਕਰਤੇ ਨੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ;
‘ਸਰਤਾਜ’ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਓਹਨੂੰ ਖੋਰਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
ਉੱਤਰੇ ਨਾ ਜੋ ਖ਼ੁਮਾਰੀ ਉਸ ਲੋਰ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
The Creator Himself made
whom the poet classified,
The letters dissolve him by naming him ‘Sartaaj’, the name verified.
Letters of ecstasy...

ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਦਾ ਬੇਟਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੋਰਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
ਮਾਂ ਖੇਲਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਬੜੀ ਲੋਰ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
I son of the script of my mother tongue,
In its symbols I stride,
My Mother tongue has given me the Letters of ecstasy to play that intoxicated in its pride,

1.ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਣ ਦੱਸੇ (ਕਿ) ਥੋਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ 'ਚ ਮਿਲ਼ੇ ਨੇ ,
ਜਿਹੜੀ ਟਿੱਬਿਆਂ 'ਚ ਟਹਿਕੇ ਉਸ ਥ੍ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
ਥੋਨੂੰ ਖੇਲਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ਼ ਗਏ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
They got in charity whom
the flowers should vide,
The letters are of thorns,
uneven lands which abides.
It’s given to you for play
but it actually belongs to someone else.


2.ਕੋਇਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ਼ ਗਈ ਏ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਪਰ;
ਜੋ ਰੋਂਦਿਆਂ ਵੀ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਉਸ ਮੋਰ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
ਥੋਨੂੰ ਖੇਲਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ਼ ਗਏ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
Nightingale sings and is accepted worldwide,
Letters of the peacock
who dances mystified but cried.
It’s given to you for play
but it actually belongs to someone else.

3.ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੜ੍ਹਕ ਨਾਲ਼ ਤੁਰਦੀ
ਝਾਂਜਰ 'ਚ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਛਣਕੇ ਉਸ ਬੋਰ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
ਉੱਤਰੇ ਨਾ ਜੋ ਖ਼ੁਮਾਰੀ ਉਸ ਲੋਰ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
When the legacy of my motherland
moves glorified,
Letters are of the anklets tinkling when collide.
Letters of ecstasy intoxicated in its pride,

4.ਸਿੰਧ ਬਿਆਸ ਰਾਵੀ ਘੱਘਰ, ਸਤਲੁਜ ਚੇਨਾਬ ਜਿਹਲਮ,
ਕਲਕਲ ਜੋ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਉਸ ਸ਼ੋਰ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
ਉੱਤਰੇ ਨਾ ਜੋ ਖ਼ੁਮਾਰੀ ਉਸ ਲੋਰ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਅੱਖਰ !
Sindh, Beas, Raavi, Ghaggar
Satluj, Chenab, Jhelum rivers provide,
Letters from their rustling waters and the tides.
Letters of ecstasy intoxicated in its pride.
