Hyundai makes a big splash in a crowded pond with the 2020 Palisade.

The theme of the weekend was boats, Hyundai reps telling us the interior of the new three-row Palisade was designed to feel like that of a high-end yacht. The Palisade is Hyundai’s flagship SUV and the drive was held on the shores of Coeur d’Alene, where pleasure boats constantly crisscrossed its dark blue surface. The Palisade seats up to eight people, depending on how you configure it, and is the largest Hyundai SUV ever made. It’s entering a crowded pond, preparing to fight the Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder and Volkswagen Atlas, among many more, for sales supremacy. Will it sink or swim?

Starting on the outside, the Palisade’s styling is purely conventional. The lines take no risks, and thus commit no egregious faults. It’s simply “there”. On the higher trim levels, the Palisade gets attractive “signature” LED lighting and pleasing satin-chrome finish on the accents.
