Several years after Elon Musk said Tesla rejected eye-tracking as a
method for measuring driver attentiveness because it is ineffective, owners of new Tesla cars are now receiving vehicles with the feature active. Tesla has activated its cabin-facing cameras installed in some of its models in a software update. Here are the reasons why Tesla is activating in-car cams to monitor drivers. To get the interesting facts, you need to see out the video. If you own a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y, then it’s apparently possible the in-car camera is or will soon be monitoring you while on Autopilot. Despite being an exciting technology for the drivers and Tesla car owners, the semi-autonomous driver assisting Autopilot technology of the electric vehicle manufacturer has made quite some headlines for wrong reasons. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration—NHTSA has opened at least twenty-seven investigations into Tesla car crashes, and Autopilot was involved in most of the fatal crashes. This has put pressure on the automaker to act. Until now, Tesla cars relied on steering-wheel sensors that detected whether drivers were holding on, and the automaker have rejected eye-tracking as a method for monitoring driver saying it’s ineffective. Companies like General Motors and Ford currently sell their cars with eye-tracking camera-based systems that are meant to make sure drivers pay attention while using hands-free driving features. Although Tesla refused to add better driving monitoring to its cars despite years of pleading from regulators and safety experts, the blame also goes on to the drivers who
don’t follow Tesla's instruction that says, even if the car is capable of
running on its own while the Autopilot is engaged, the driver should be
there monitoring and intervening whenever required.

This Tesla interior camera to monitor drivers is now activated.
