This old Yamaha outboard motor had mice living in it and hasn't run in years. In this video I take an initial look at what might be involved with getting this 1989 Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke outboard engine running again after sitting for at least 10 years.

This Yamaha FT9.9EXF outboard uses a remote control box or binnacle to operate the outboard engine as opposed to operating it with a tiller handle but this Yamaha 9.9 did not come with the control box so I am uncertain which type I should use.

9.9 hp outboard engines are quite popular and common in the US because we no longer have 10 hp engines as an option but they are the same as 10 hp outboards (I have a video on this subject!). Small boats, dinghies and tenders are usually equipped with light weight and low horsepower outboards and despite weighing nearly 100 lbs, 9.9 horsepower outboards like this Yamaha are usually well suited for smaller craft and also as a kicker motor on larger boats.
