This is the first in a short series of how to restore an older outboard engine. This project engine is a 1983 Evinrude 90 HP 2 stroke that came with the 83 Boston Whaler Montauk I recently restored. I'm fairly certain this outboard engine has not been run in at least 7 year and probably longer than that. In this video, I introduce the engine, (Howdy sir!) , and basically get some lubrication in the cylinders as well as in the crankcase. Here's the basic order of the videos I expect to create for the series (but not necessarily in this order):
- Connecting and synchronizing controls and cables
- Pulling, cleaning and adjusting carbs as well as Reed Block
- Checking out and repairing any Ignition issues
- Starting the unit up and letting it smoke!
- Lower unit and impeller
