In this protocol the goal is population reduction. Start by removing all visible roaches found during the inspection using a HEPA (rated) filtered vacuum. Mechanical control is the quickest way to reduce a population.

Fogging can be another way to quickly reduce a population of German roaches. Determine if the client’s business is appropriate for fogging in hard-to-reach areas like drop ceilings, for example.

Treat harborages using an aerosolization machine (such as Actisol, PAS, etc.), aerosol, or dust product.

The use of a bait product at this stage is not recommended due to disturbance caused by vacuuming, fogging, and direct harborage treatments. This disturbance can lead to bait avoidance.

Communicate to the customer what to expect after the treatment. Stress the importance of next day cleanup. Dead or dying roaches will be in the kitchen and possibly the dining and bar area. Roaches will need to be removed before the facility opens to guests.

Follow up approximately two weeks later to

- Vacuum dead and dying roaches to reduce callbacks and help with reevaluation
- Make an assessment and treat according to the level of infestation
