What is assessment-based Pest Management or APM? This is a control strategy designed for the pest management industry.

Why not integrated pest management or IPM? IPM was designed for the agriculture industry. Although IPM is a great strategy for controlling pests, the structural pest management industry has difficulty utilizing all the concepts especially for public heath pests like German roaches.

The first step in an APM strategy is to assess the problem usually with a visual inspection and use of monitors. The infestation level will be determined using three categories: high, medium, and low.

The PMP has specific treatment protocols to address each level. Finally, there is a reevaluation during follow-up treatments.
