On 13th February 2021, a large earthquake struck the coast of Fukushima, Japan. Within the area of the 2011 Great Eastern Japan mega earthquake M9.0 which claimed thousands of live and triggered destructive tsunamis which left a paralysing wake of destruction in its path.

This M7.3 earthquake was an after shock of the M9.0 in 2011, the largest since. Fortunately no tsunamis were triggered and no casualties resulted. Join us as we check the damage and disruption to people’s lives and public from Japanese TV footage and the explore why such a big after shock occurred almost exactly 10 years after. We also look at science to understand why Japan has so many earthquakes. Also take a look at some of the technology for earthquake early warning system and probably the most advanced earthquake mitigating civil engineering technology plus how Japanese prepare for such a regular natural disaster.
