On October 20th and 21st, 2023 I would chase Norfolk & Western Class J 4-8-4 #611 over the Buckingham Branch's North Mountain Subdivision. Although this is ex-Chesapeake & Ohio territory, the #611 is right at home doing what she is meant to do! #611 would haul her train from the small mountain town of Goshen to the larger valley city of Staunton. Of course, with the weather being less-than-ideal, making the rails extra slick, the Buckingham Branch would lend a hand with a couple of their diesel locomotives to assist the #611 up the mountain. This helped the #611 maintain a decent speed up the grade to North Mountain and also prevented stalling, as was the case the previous weekend. Despite all this, the #611 put on quite the show! Plus, the fall colors were almost at their peak at multiple spots! I also threw in a bonus clip of Amtrak's eastbound Cardinal #50 with a now-endangered P42DC on the point. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of steam in the Shenandoah Valley! I hope y'all enjoy!
