In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi continues to cover the life and times of the 3rd Khalifa of Islam, Uthman Ibn 'Affan [r].

A summary of topics covered are:

-What we know about Uthman [r] in the time of the Prophet [pbuh] and his achievements
-Not much is known about him in Meccan era
-His generosity is a constant theme in the Seerah
-After migrating to Medina, Uthman [r] purchased a well for the Muslims to drink from for 35,000 Dirhams, equivalent of $1.5M dollars today (appx).
-During the battle of Badr, Ruqayiah [r] was very ill so Uthman [r] was not able to participate and was commanded by the Prophet [pbuh] not to attend
-Uthman was considered to be a 'Badri' and was given his share of war booty, even though he did not attend
-The prophet [pbuh] eventually offers his daughter Umm-Khultum [r] in marriage to Uthman [r] in the 3rd year of the Hijra
-Uthman's [r] son, Abdullah, passes away 4th year of Hijra
-Uthman [r] participated in battle of Uhud, and was one of those who ran [turned their backs] and was explicitly forgiven by Allah in the Qur'an ("Allah has forgiven them" - surah Ale'Imran)
-Uthman [r] was chosen as the governor in the absence of the Prophet [pbuh]
-His most honorable occasion was at Hudaibiyah, when Umar [r] suggested Uthman [r] to represent the Muslims, since Abu Sufiyan was of Banu Ummaiya as well. All leaders refused Uthman [r]'s proposal to allow Muslims to do Umrah. Uthman in turn refused Quraysh's offer to perform tawaf. Rumors spread that Uthman [r] may have been killed. 1400 gave allegiance to the Prophet [r] to defend the blood of Uthman.
-When foster brother of Uthman [r] Abdullah left Islam, the Prophet [pbuh] ordered not to forgive such people. He came to house of Uthman [r] and begged for forgiveness. Uthman took Abdullah to the Prophet to make his case, who eventually forgave him. Abdullah led a very genuine and beneficial life after that
-Battle of Tabuk: Uthman [r] donated hundreds of camels until the Prophet [pbuh] said "nothing can harm Uthman after this"
-Another narration has Uthman bringing sacks of gold coins and the prophet [pbuh] made a similar statement ("nothing can harm Uthman after this"). Shows how you can never lose wealth by giving it for a good cause, because Uthman [r] regained wealth and continued to give.
-In essence, Uthman [r] single handedly financed the battle of Tabuk
-In 9th year, Umm Khultum [r] passed away without any children
-Due to his patience, Allah blessed him with 14 children after that
-Prophet [pbuh] saw Uthman [r] sad, and commented "If I had a 3rd daughter I would give her to you"
-When the prophet [pbuh] wanted to expand the masjid, Uthman [r] purchased the land for 25,000 Dirhams. A part of this is what is the Rawdah today, known as "heaven on earth"
