Customer states knocking noise heard from the engine, oil light intermittently on, now check engine light is on. Verified the knock noise is consistent with rod bearing failure. Found a large amount of metal on the VCT solenoid. Removed the oil pan and found metallic debris in the oil. Cylinder 1 rod bearing has the worse damage of delaminating metal from the bearing surface. Other cylinder rod bearings have lite scoring from the metal circulation. Crankshaft journals are scored. Camshaft journals have lite scoring on them. Recommending a new engine.
