In 2009, Marvel was looking to expand its Cinematic Universe.

After the major wins of Iron Man and Incredible Hulk, and movies like Thor and The Avengers on the Horizon, they were looking to future-proof. One result of this initiative was a first draft of a Doctor Strange origin movie that is totally different from the 2016 film.

This version of the movie saw Strange learning the art of magic under the watchful eye of the Ancient One, encountering colorful characters like Karl Mordo and Benjamin Wong, and trying to solve a murder that involves Dormammu, Shuma Gorath, and the end of the world.

So today, we'll walk through the development, plot and evolution of the original plans for Doctor Strange.
